Final Edited Images

Today we all met up to create the PowerPoint and to edit the 5 chosen photographs. We managed to create the PowerPoint with no problems, however we stumbled upon a few problems whilst editing the photographs. The computers in the library showed the images up with a much higher contrast on screen than what they should do, so when we edited them and opened them up onto a laptop they didn't look great. We then had a go at editing them on the mac's however also struggled doing so.
So we came to a decision that I should take the 5 images home and edit them myself using photoshop on my laptop, as I had a go the previous day before meeting up today, and the editing and the photographs were showing up fine.
When it came to editing them, I started by using the magic wand tool to select just the model and not the background, then I changed the levels and the curves, that way the model stood out more against the background. I then deselected the model and edited the images as a whole, changing the variations to add darker highlights, shadows and midtones.
The floor in all of the images looked dirty, so I cleaned this up by using the burn tool which got rid of all of the dirty marks. I then also used the burn tool to make the eye-makeup, eyebrows, and lips stand out more.
Another tool which I used was the sharpen tool, as I was able to select which parts of the images I wanted to appear sharper, I made the eyes, all of the jewellery, the shoes, parts of the clothing such as zips and studs and the props sharper. That way they stood out more. As well as using the burn tool I also used the dodge tool to highlight certain areas which I thought needed to stand out more, such as the eyes and parts of the background. I also used this tool on the images which include the red heels as It helped make the heels appear more shiny.
Aswell as having a blog, we also have a facebook group which we created as a way of communicating with eachother to arrange meetings and for all of us to discuss thoughts and ideas. Once I finished editing these images I posted them to the facebook group so each group member was notified about these and was then able to give there say on what they thought about the final edited images and also if any further changes needed to be made.
Every group member liked the final edited images and are happy to submit these tomorrow!

Music

We were looking for some music which can play in the background when presenting our five final images. We wanted something which is relevant to the film and relevant to the 80's era as a whole without being too 'obvious' or stereotypical. We researched the Desperately Seeking Susan soundtrack to find some appropriate music.

This song is by a band called The Fixx from 1983 and is played throughout the film. We thought it was catchy and unique and would compliment our photos perfectly.

Last Meeting

Today even though was a long day it was succesful, alot of team work and team effort, editing photos and powerpoint! good work everyone :) see you at the presontaition x

Print Screens of Photoshop Editing

As the Black drop in the studio was covered in foot prints didnt look very crisp and clear on the images, we focused on using the brush tool to get a clean black background, also high lighted the models face, used brightness and contrast, curves and levels, all these tools made the images look alot better and brightend the images up, we had to be careful as our images have a lot of contrast colours, while editing it was hard to make them not too contrast. we also used the crop and cloning tool to get rid of edges we didnt want and cloning tool to make her skin really clear.

Photoshop Mistake

Hear are 2 of the images that we spent hours on the 3rd floor libary computers, but because the screens werent good, when we went to look at them on the laptop you could see all of the editing, but on the previous computer it looked perfect so had to be done again.

photo's before shoot

Brief run through on what went on....
Before the photo shoot, I laid all the jewellery out on the floor, and we decided what jewellery to use, we choose lots of silver studded bangles that Alice brought in and combined them with some of my plain silver bangles.

Sian and Kera tried to get the internet working on the laptop to have a look at the research we had on the blog to check on what possitions we wanted the model in for each shoot, mean while Francesca was getting the projecter and setting it up (which was a struggle because it kept turning off) and Ashliegh went to get her laptop to bring in because the model wanted music on to help her with the shoot.

Kera brought loads of fake eyelashes in and Laura decided on which ones to use, that suited the style of the models make up, and showed everyone the options and agreed on one.

I gave a go on doing the Base of the models make up and Kera did a great job on giving the model smokey eyes and bright red lipstick.

I laid all the iteams out on the chair ready in the corner of the room wear the model changed into different outfits. so we could be organised and just hand them to her after each shoot.

Alice painted the models nails black, because black would go with evey outfit we created, was thinking about red but we had red shoes, red head band and red lipstick already in some images.

                                                           The models make up complete

Sian and Kera placed the coloured gels on the studio light, and choose green and red because in Despretely Seeking Susan in the magic club thats colours they used. when we got started we all told what possitions the model to be in throughout the shoot and tried many different looks so we had a fair few to choose from.

We were all very pleased on how the shoot went and went to fashion & Brand class room to look at the images on the projecter with the model to see what she thought, she really liked them and thought the strongest part was the styling and said she would wear the outfits we created herself.

Chosen Shoot Photographs

After the shoot being a success and managing to get over 200 images, we then had the problem of choosing our 5 final images. So last week we met up as a group to look over all of the images together and narrow them down to the ones we liked, and got rid of the ones we didn't like. This was difficult as there was a lot of images which we did like, however we managed to pick our chosen 5 images in the end, which we believe are our strongest ones. These are the 5 chosen images above.
Obviously the images need a bit of work doing to them so that they look proffesional and even better than what they do already. So we decided that all of us should take the five chosen images home and have a go at editing them, then bring them back when we next meet to decide which edited ones we like the most, as everyone will edit a photo differently.

Information about the magazine which has helped us to create our shoot as it has to have a certain "look" about it and be aimed at the right target audience. These influences will also indicate on which five final images we choose.

Inspiration

To inspire our shoots we looked at a few shoots previously done from Vogue. This first shoot is focused on the jewellery, our  focus is on the clothing in the shoot. they have used a plain background in each and cut out the girls faces to make it clear what the reader should be looking at. by using a plain black backdrop the emphasis lies on the outfit.

This shoot has been styled with the background matching the theme of the outfits but by clashing the pattern the model does not blend in with the background. The graffiti background clashes with some of our outfits and therefore works in the same way.

The theme of this shoot is "clean cut". The background and the clothes portray this instead of one or the other. With our edgy outfits and graffiti backdrop we are following a similar style.

A simple use of a small prop in the following shoot is subtle but still clear. Taking inspiration from the magic club in the film we thought a small birdcage would have a similar effect.

Finally this street style shoot is quite similar to ours in the way that there is a mixture of grunge and glamour in background and the model. Also the dark background in the first picture ensures the emphasis is on the model.
