Outside the film imagery

I still think it's important to look beyond the film a bit because logically something inspired them to create the looks that are featured and that style has since inspired something that was created afterwards...

Non celebrity

These are pictures of a girl from home who has paid for a couple of photoshoots and I think some of her images relate in a way, but in a more modern way.

Taking one element, the glove, and isolating and exploiting it

Grudgey street shots...ripped clothing and crinkled hair

I think these are a good follow on from Madonna to Material Girl at Macy's, model Taylor
Momsen...Niamh MacAuley in an locationed editorial style shoot.

The above shoot has the "good girl gone bad" vibe, it has the cigarettes,
implied drink, leather boots, stockings, lace, gloves, jewellery, red lips, dark eyes and everything else
but in a real cool, up to date way. I also want to point out the straight hair...mad curls would
have been overkill to this shoot.

Below is more of a friend of a friend. Lucy has a really unique dress
sense and she would have had loads to look at but I don't know her too well and we're not friends
on Facebook so these are all of what I could find to talk about from profile pictures,

Calmer, curly hair with a rocky/punk feel?
Statement jewellery, layered necklaces, layered tops...

Instead of a leather jacket, velvet? Crinkled hair..

Hair accessories and lacy corset

Celebrity

Good girl gone bad??
Rihanna.

Leather and studs

Next to Madonna...similarities.

Blazer, Shoulder detail, sunglasses, red lips, neon colours...

Not a fan of this outfit but we have leather gloves, lace underwear, neon nails, big jewellery and boots

Experiment with colours and patterns...hair accessories, big earrings, layered necklaces, blazer....half leggings? and that top is very similar to what Susan wore in her first shot.

Jessie J
Didn't find a lot straight away for her but this image just made me think about how we can have fun
with make up and bcd to the British notion I had earlier

Madonna type bodice..patterned tights
Use of coloured lights!! In green.

Cindy Lauper

Girls just want to have fun...

Like I said in my first post, Madonna got confused for Cindy before her own fame occurred.

Back combed hair, jewellery, rockfish top but more muted makeup in terms of her lips

A more modern look. Vivid colours but with the punk vibe. Red lips, decorative eyes and
masculine touch with tie and waist coat. Sleeker hair.

Lady GaGa

Lady GaGa has been classed as a "Madonnabe" after the many similarities in their
dress sense, music and music videos.

Whether or not this is true is down to opinion but there are clear similarities
obviously due to inspiration. Lady GaGa has taken some of the elements
that makes up Madonna's style and has changed and altered and pushed it all to the limit.

Below are some images I feel have been based on the 80s in some way.

Shoulder padding

Hair bows

Leather jackets
Red lips
Studs
Glasses
Hair
Makeup
Headband

The above four stills taken from "Edge of Glory" has a very early days MTV feel and shows
very well how unrealistic coloured lighting can be used effectively.

And finally, below is how Lady GaGa mixes Roberta like peach colours with Susan's
signature leather. This also shows how keeping glasses but using a different shape can make a
new but relatable look.

These are just examples. I think it's important to look at how other people could have interpreted what we've seen or just make something similar without having seen it at all.

Two more mood boards

photography

I have found a few images that I think will be helpful when directing our shoot

I think we can see in this (Mario Testino) picture that an idea can be shown simply through the use of jewellery and a hat, we don’t have to show full body in all of the pictures.
Also looking at this image I think a prop such as eyeliner can help to portray our message we want to come across in the shoot, maybe this could be mid transition.
I have also found this series of images of Agness Deyn taken by Alasdair McLellan which appear to have the same carefree, wild attitude as Madonna in our film, especially with the packet of crisps used as a prop (this could be another idea for a prop in one of our shoots)

My Wardrobe

Just some thoughts...

I don't think I have suitable boots but I do have these under my bed!!
They're Iron Fist and the style is "Bloody Mess".
They're neon colours with black, they're edgy and have bows!!
The mattresses are a bit of a pain to lift so this is a Facebook image but
a better image can be found here

Some hair bows... Bright colours, dark colours...lace, net, studs
...polka dot, floral

Possibly for the Magician idea??
Mini top hat with netting, bow and feathers

Neon star clip...

Crop top wise I have these...

Dark...stars

Madonna's collection for Macy's features the British flag..
Maybe we can move from the films location to our own??

Love this!
Red lips, "Let's Dance" (for inspiration?)

I also found this corset

Leggings and skirt/shorts are featured in the film so maybe instead of leggings
we could try tights..

Mass variety of pattern tights lately but these look very like Susan's when she is first
in Roberta's house.

I do have these leggings though

Closer look for some detail..

Never worn...these and a dress still to be shown were bought in Manhattan's
Soho district last christmas

Playing with levels and lengths or whatever...instead of leggings down to the knee, over knee socks??
I got these in Dunnes when I went home for the weekend in October,
They're like a weird mix between socks, tights and stockings almost. I have three pairs, they're not mix matched just showing the designs, the third are just plain normal netting.

I looked at black shorts and thought maybe adding braces could liven them up and
relate back to some of the masculine elements in the 80s like shoulder padding and such.
(Not putting outfits together here just trying things on for effect...)

For a more feminine look I also have floral shorts

This dress, previously mentioned..plain black but maybe accessorised and given a belt or
something could work. It's ruffled around the waist and the shirt is tiered...80's rara skirt

Cream lace dress...spotted tights which can't really be seen here...

Lace detail and a bit of shoulder padding

Leather jacket

Closer details..

Leg warmers

Neon

Grey and black...also have plain grey and plain black

Beaded necklace...tiered.

Glamourisation and masculine...but feminine??
It's all diamonds! Love this necklace.

Neon nail colours..
plus red...

That's about it I think...hope something helps.
