Hair and Make up

With the shoot only 6 days away, I thought it was time to start looking at hair and make up ideas.

The group met today and we discussed some different ideas for the shoot, including the thought that we could be being slightly too 'obvious' and playing it safe by styling the shoot around Susan's clothes in the film and that maybe we should go ahead with the 'not so obvious' and use Roberta's housewife style, or even create a mixture of the two. However, until the group has met again tomorrow and composed a final idea, I thought I would post some of the hair and make up research that I'd already found.

Susan's hair is one of her most distinctive features and her big, volumous curls are hard to miss. It would be a good idea to try to use a model with the same curly hair if we are to represent Susan's style. We don't yet have a definite model, although we do have two possible candidates, one of which has big curls just like Susan's.

I think whatever our final idea be, the use of hair accessories/bows/headscarves is very important. Susan wears hair accessories through the majority of the film so they are iconic to her style. Secondly, I think the use of bows in the hair cross over both the typical 'housewife' style and also the 'edgy, 80's punk rock' style so they will be an important accessory no matter which character we choose to focus on.

In terms of make up, the 80's were renown for the popular punky image, aided by heavy eye shadow and very emphasised, usually dark red, lips.
Here is a video I came across on YouTube of an 80's make up tutorial which might give us some good tips for when we have our own models' make up to do on the day of the shoot.

Tomorrow we are meeting to plan the outfits for shoot, so our next move should definitely be to find a definite model, so that we can ensure that the clothes fit and that we know what we're going to do regarding hair, make up, accessories and props.
